- Why does flashing matter so much?
- Shingles shed water, but wherever the roof meets something else, a chimney, a wall, a skylight, the seal is the flashing. That's where most hidden leaks start, and it's the first thing a cheap job cuts corners on.
- Can you just seal it instead of replacing it?
- Sometimes. But caulk over failing flashing is a temporary fix, and more often than not it hides the problem instead of solving it. If it needs replacing we'll show you why.
- Do you do gutters at the same time as the roof?
- Yes, and that's usually the right time for it. The roof and the gutters have to work as one system, so doing them together means nothing gets damaged or torn back off later.
- What about the chimney masonry itself?
- We handle the flashing and the roofing where the chimney meets the roof. If the brick or the mortar needs rebuilding, that's mason work, and we'll tell you that straight rather than patch around it.
